March 7th The 2010 Young 88 South Island Champs were held in Akaroa Harbour over two days of great conditions. The event was won by "Medium Dry" skippered by Anthony Leighs. You can view Ollie's Report / Photos Here or Young 88 Class Website Here
   
         
March 6th Dean Barker (NZL) shows that he is still New Zealand's top Skipper by winning the 2010 Omega Auckland Match Racing Regatta. Dean and his crew (Ray Davies, Jeremy Lomas, Don Cowie, James Dagg & Tony Rae) beat Ben Ainslie (GBR) 2-0 in the final with Adam Minoprio (NZL) taking 3rd place by defeating Torvar Mirsky (AUS). The regatta was run by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron in the one-design Farr MRX yachts and was the first event in the Auckland Festival of Sailing. March 3rd A very enthusiastic group of students from Okains Bay School get their first chance to sail thanks to Yachting NZ's sailing Have-a-Go programme and instructor Riccardo Ingrosso! The conditions were excellent with lots of sun and wind! Photos Here
   
         
 
February 28th The Presidents Cup & Canterbury Keel Boat Champs were held this year in Akaroa Harbour. The tsunami warning from the earthquake in Chile meant that only three races were run in nice NW conditions! Ollie's Report Here or offical results Here.
   
         
 
February 14th The 60th Leander & R Class Skiff Nationals were held over 4 days of great sailing conditions on Lyttelton Harbour. This exciting NZ development class is continuing to push the limits of double-handed skiff sailing with the winning crew of Paul Roe / Dan Leech showing that they have well and truly made the leap to Hydofoiling! December 6th Adam Minoprio (NZL) age 24, along with his team ETNZ/Black Match, becomes the 2009 ISAF Match Racing World Champion defeating triple Olympic Gold medallist Ben Ainslie (GBR) of Team Origin 3-0 in the Monsoon Cup final. View final results Here
 
     
 
November 30th Yachting NZ's sailing Have-a-Go programme makes it back to Akaroa and this year students from Duvauchelle School as well as Akaroa Area School get to sail. Thanks to instructor Riccardo Ingrosso for a great couple of days! Check out photos Here
 
     
October 11th The young New Zealand Match Racing Team skippered by Adam Minoprio are leading the 2009 ISAF World Match Racing Standings going into the final competition, Monsoon Cup which will be decided in Malaysia. Follow ETNZ/Black Match team's results Here
 
     
September 19th Emirates Team New Zealand Team New Zealand won their fourth regatta on the trot and are the Audi MedCup 2009 champions. Strong winds made for some very exciting conditions in this final regatta of the serries. Check out the photos on Event Site Here

August 24th Emirates Team New Zealand has made it three in a row winning the Portugal Trophy regatta and is leading on the Overall Points Table in the Audi MedCup. See Event Site
 
     
America's Cup When the 33rd America’s Cup Match finally takes place between Alinghi and BMW Oracle it looks like it is going to be as exciting as ever! June 27 Ericsson 4 wins the 08/09 Volvo Ocean Race skippered by Torben Grael (BRA) including 4 Kiwi Crew Members! The race started in Spain in October 2008 and finished in Russia with the teams sailing over 37,000 nautical miles at speeds of up to 30 knots! See Event Site
 
     
 
March In Term 1 a group of Akaroa Area School students completed the Yachting NZ Learn-to-Sail Level 1 course over several weeks getting out on the water on Wednesday afternoons.
