29th HSBC Premier Coastal Classic
New Zealand's premier fleet yacht race
from Auckland to Russell in the Bay of Islands,
will get underway again this year on Friday 22

August 16th The Sunburst
Nationals will be hosted by the Pigeon
Bay Boating Club from the 21st - 24th
January 2011. Pigeon Bay is the largest north-facing
bay on Banks Peninsula, just 25 minutes drive
over the hill from Akaroa. The Sunburst is a popular
two-handed dinghy with a large number of sailors

Taranaki Wave Classic October 22-25 2010
is New Zealand's premiere windsurfing event. Held
on the awesome coastline of the Taranaki peninsula,
past events have seen some world class wave-sailing

Class, which is a popular New Zealand dinghy that

their upcoming National Championships in Akaroa

Young 88 Nationals were as competitive as ever
with 21 teams racing in some excellent autumn
conditions out on Aucklands Hauraki Gulf. Some
of New Zealand's top keel boat racers were skattered
throughout the teams and the winning boat was
"Flash Gordon" skippered by Team New

April 3rd Auckland has
won its bid as host city in one of the stops for
the 2011-2012 Volvo
Ocean Race. And Emirates Team New Zealand
will work with Spanish sponsor Camper
to enter their own challenge! The Kiwi's should
be very competitive with the huge depth of talented
offshore sailors and also knowledge from race
veteran Grant Dalton.

April 1st The Optimist
Class is looking very strong in New Zealand with
a huge turnout of over 280 sailors attending this
years National Champs recently held at Whitianga.
New Zealand will host the Optimist World Champs
in Napier 2011 so things can only get better!

March 21st Emirates
Team New Zealand has won the final of the Louis
Vuitton Trophy Auckland regatta beating Italy's
Mascalzone Latino Audi Team (also with a Kiwi
skipper Gavin Brady) 2-0. ETNZ will now head to

March 6th Dean Barker
(NZL) shows that he is still New Zealand's top
Skipper by winning the 2010 Omega Auckland Match
Racing Regatta. Dean and his crew (Ray Davies,
Jeremy Lomas, Don Cowie, James Dagg & Tony Rae)
beat Ben Ainslie (GBR) 2-0 in the final with Adam
Minoprio (NZL) taking 3rd place by defeating Torvar
Mirsky (AUS). The regatta was run by the Royal
New Zealand Yacht Squadron in the one-design Farr
MRX yachts and was the first event in the Auckland

Leander & R Class Skiff Nationals were held
over 4 days of great sailing conditions on Lyttelton
Harbour. This exciting NZ development class is

the 08/09 Volvo Ocean Race skippered by Torben

March In Term 1 a group
of Akaroa Area School students completed the Yachting
NZ Learn-to-Sail Level 1 course over several weeks
getting out on the water on Wednesday afternoons.
Everyone improved their skills heaps and were
all sailing confidently by the end of the season.

Candice Clough from Maryland USA. The weather
threw in a bit of everthing from strong winds
and hail to bright sunshine but everone ended
